ESCADA
A landscape in transformation. An emblematic early-20th-century staircase gradually disappears from view. In Escada, the artist documents the architectural transformation of the building where she lives in Madrid. Over the course of ten months, a lift was installed, progressively replacing the old staircase. From a fixed and elevated viewpoint, the artist photographed the same scene every day, generating a visual record of disappearance and reconstruction.
Through this long-duration process, the work reflects on the relationship between permanence and loss in the urban landscape, and on how architectural transformations reconfigure everyday gestures. The act of photographing becomes a ritual of observation, an attempt to retain the subtle mutations of a place in transit.
